When Sleep Evades...

When I go to sleep

I want a blank mind,

One that has no thoughts

But of the sleep it’d sleep

And the dreams it’d dream

But right then

Thoughts surround me

Eroding the mind of the sleep and dreams

Then I’d lay awake in bed

That bed like thorn would poke my back

And pick the sleep away.

I’d go looking for it in TV shows

Or last pages of the book that I was reading

Sometimes I’d find my sleeps and dreams

But mostly they’d evade me

Like cheating lovers

Like un-maternal mothers

And I, like lovelorn jilted lover,

Would seek only sleep

Like a craving child

Who wants to reach for her hands to hold me,

To take me to far-away land

Of dreams!

A Friend Who Walked Away

If I had known…

I’d stop you on your path

And ask you to walk me back

U-turns sometimes lead to new paths.

If I had known…

I’d ask you your well-being

And held your hands,

Human touch sometimes leads to new beginnings.

Alas! If I had known!

And so you walked away straight

Unbeknownst of the u-turns that could’ve brought you back.

So, I couldn’t ask you your well-being,

Not knowing that my touch could’ve helped you

So I couldn’t tell that my friendship was worth a try!
